Our Wallpaper Product

Question What is removable wallpaper?
Answer

Removable wallpaper or “peel and stick wallpaper” is a DIY wallpaper product that can be easily removed and reused in another room on any smooth non-porous surface. No messy glue residue on removal and the wallpaper doesn't rip or tear. We recommend after applying your wallpaper that you keep the backing paper in a safe place if you decide to remove the wallpaper at a later stage (and want to apply the backing paper for storage). Please note that the wallpaper can only be repositioned or removed safely on the correct wall surface. If the wall paint is teflon paint, damaged or flakey paint or has not been prepared correctly, there is a risk that paint will be removed when the wallpaper is pulled off. The best way to test this is to order a sample piece of wallpaper to try. Our wallpaper product does not stick to a porous surface (textured paint, suede effects, rendered concrete or teflon paint, nothing sticks to Teflon) some wash and wear paints have a higher amount of teflon than others, again the best test is a sample over 24 hours if the paint type is unknown.

Question What is your wallpaper made of?
Answer

Our Wallpaper is a woven polyester canvas fabric which allows our wallpaper to breathe (so air bubbles don’t get trapped under the wallpaper as it is an air-release product, so they can simply push out). It has a lovely canvas-like texture and can be spot cleaned, it is highly durable and does not rip or tear. It can easily be removed and reinstalled if necessary with no residue left on smooth surfaces and no damage to the wallpaper. All our wallpaper uses water based inks that are odourless and non-toxic so it is totally safe for you and the environment.

Question Can I order wallpaper samples?
Answer

Yes, you can order a sample of any design (or multiple designs). Simply choose the “sample option” when placing your order. We encourage you to order samples to fully experience our designs and colours in real life and see how easily our wallpaper can be applied and removed. Please note colours do vary from on screen to printed sample.

Question How do I know how much wallpaper I need to order?
Answer

To determine how many rolls you need you must measure your wall(s) width and height. The overall width needs to be divided by 700mm to work out how many rolls you require (700mm is the width of each of our rolls). We offer our rolls in 3 different heights to accommodate even the tallest wall!

Installation & removal

Question What surfaces does our wallpaper adhere to?
Answer

Our wallpaper applies to any smooth surface or any wall that has had a non-teflon based paint on it. It DOES NOT adhere to porous surfaces (rendered walls, concrete or brick), teflon paint or some wash & wear paints (some of which contain similar properties). Suede effects and  satin finish paints all contain teflon and nothing adheres to teflon unfortunately! There is a product called Viponds which can be purchased separately and applied to the wall if you have teflon paint which can then be suitable for our wallpaper application.

The smoother the surface, the better the finished application of the wallpaper. If the wall is not perfectly smooth this may cause adhesion issues with our self-adhesive fabric stock, or small air pockets if there are paint nodules or bumps on the wall - best to dust and remove this prior to install.

If you have recently painted your wall please ensure a minimum 7 days for the paint to cure before applying your wallpaper.

If you are unsure about the suitability of your wall, please email us at hello@bylibertyinterios.com.au  for guidance.

Question How do I install my wallpaper?
Answer

Our wallpaper is designed as a super easy DIY product.

Before you start, please confirm that your wall is a suitable surface for our wallpaper to adhere to. Ensure your wall is smooth and clean by removing any dust. Installation is as simple as peeling off the backing paper and placing the wallpaper carefully on the wall then firmly pressing/ smoothing onto the wall surface. We recommend using your hands, don’t be afraid to apply pressure to allow the wallpaper to adhere to the wall and push out any air.

Our wallpaper system is an “overlap” design to ensure continuity of image and prevention of visible seams between panels (our stock is opaque). Pending how the light enteres your room or the lighting on the wall on certain angles the joins may be more visible, every wallpaper product has joins.  Please follow our instructions carefully or watch our video.

Our wallpaper is very forgiving so can be repositioned if you make a mistake without damaging the wallpaper or the wall. You can also purchase a plastic wallpaper applicator to assist from our partners at Pickawall or your local hardware store, but your hands are the best tools as you will feel any air or lumps or bumps in the wall easily.

We recommend to install your wallpaper within 3 months of purchase as we cannot guarantee the adhesion quality given it can be impacted by how/where it is stored. We have a 2 year guarantee on the adhesive once installed, and a 5 year+ life span if installed correctly*

Please read the below FAQ regarding how to prepare the walls before installation.

You will receive an easy to follow and personalized instruction sheet with your order. We also recommend you watch our installation video - Click here the link

If the wall surface is not perfectly smooth, it may affect the adhesion of our wallpaper and small “bubbling” may occur. This is normal and the bubbles should settle in time or can be “pressed down” using your finger or a wallpaper applicator to firmly push the air out as the fabric is an air release stock. During installation you can simply peel back to release any air and re-apply to the wall firmly and smoothly.

Question Do I need to prepare my walls?
Answer

Preparation of walls is very important to ensure the removable wallpaper can be applied well. All walls must be clean and dry and any cracks, holes or peeling should be repaired for best results. Any hooks should be removed and can be replaced again after wallpaper application. Freshly painted walls should be left to settle for a recommended 7 days before applying our wallpaper to ensure it isn’t damaged if you decide to remove your wallpaper at a later time. Teflon based painted walls need to be repainted before applying our wallpaper as it does not adhere to teflon paint or textured effects paints. Some industrial strength wash & wear paints may contain teflon, but generally domestic wash and wear is suitable. Best to order a sample of our wallpaper to test prior to purchase if unsure. There is a product called Viponds which can be applied to the wall as a prep coat if your base paint is not suitable.

Question How easy is it to remove my wallpaper?
Answer

It is super easy to remove and re-apply to your walls over and over again. The adhesive properties of our wallpaper remain constant once activated. Please ensure you slowly peel back the wallpaper from the wall to avoid brittle or freshly painted walls from flaking. If you have recently painted your wall please ensure a minimum 7 days for the paint to cure before applying your wallpaper. We recommend keeping the original backing paper and placing it back on it for transportation or storage at a later stage. Evenly roll up your wallpaper loosely to minimise creasing. The backing paper acts as a dust protector for the adhesive side.
